Congresswoman Davis broke ranks with Democrats and voted for Fast Track trade negotiating authority, despite lobbying by labor and environmental organizations. Fast Track would prevent congress from changing or even having extended debate on any trade agreement negotiated by the President. By restricting citizens' ability to have meaningful discussions with their respresentatives on trade issues, Fast Track would concentrate even more power in the hands of transnational corporations and would expedite the passage of Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) through Congress without meaningful regulations to protect workers rights, indigenous rights and the environment.
