MINUTES- COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING JULY 9, 2002 A visit to the meeting was made by representatives of the Moratorium on Death Penalty who came to explain their initiative and to seek our signatures. Presenting were Jeff Ghelardi, Ruth Cardoso, and Lacey Watkins. We agreed to endorse the initiative. They exited prior to our meeting. The meeting was convened at 7:15 p.m.. Present were: Robyn Ardaz, Jodi Beebe, John Delehanty, Lupita Jimenez, Aaron Lipke, Ted Muga, Nelisse Muga, and Magali Offerman. Lupita served as Secretary and Nelisse as time keeper. Jodi served as facilitator. Approval for the May County Council meeting was delayed pending a possible change in the script. Minutes for the June ll, 2002 meeting were approved. The Treasurer's duties have been temporarily transferred to Jodi and Magali while Micki undergoes surgery. Approval was given to Magali to work on language delineating duties for the Secretary and Treasurer office. The draft Strategy Proposal was ratified by consensus. Discussion followed regarding the wording of the Media Working Group operation. We consensed on the proposal that " a designated representative from the working group would report to the County Council for validation of the work." There followed a discussion of our use of Pay Pal for accepting donations and for ticket purchases with the use of the individual's credit card. Karine has signed us up. Magali would be in charge of the actual operation with Pay Pal. A concern was expressed by Ted regarding the excess paperwork that could ensue. He was willing to stand aside. Consensus was reached on the issue of using Pay Pal. The donation of $300 worth of printing of our literature by Lisa Burkhart was finalized by our receipt of the printed material most of which was taken by Nelisse to be used in her work at the upcoming street Fairs. A small part of the literature was taken by Lupita to be used in South Bay tabling. An Ad Hoc group was proposed to be in charge of the design, production and ordering of Green merchandise. Nelisse will be in charge of buttons. Use of credit to purchase merchandise was discussed. This committee will make a presentation on their choices, budget and final proposal at the next council meeting. The production of any items depends on council approval first. Consensus. A Finance Committee is to be established. This committee proposal was postponed to the next council meeting as we needed more time to discuss. Discussion ensued regarding expenses to be made to cover our participation in the Gay Pride Parade. Since we will have three Green candidates riding in a convertible in the Parade, Magali explained our participation to cover the distribution of beads with Green messages. The candidates will be asked to cover the expense of beads and printed message. We will be informed on-line of the progress of our participation. We will spend money only if we will be reimbursed. Consensed. At this point, both Aaron Lipke and Jodi Beebe stepped down as co-chairs, both citing press of duties on their jobs as the reason. Aaron will continue his participation with the Greens as his time permits and Jodi will concentrate her efforts on our Fall Fund Raiser. Lupita was asked to be co-chair designate and an additional co-chair will be solicited. Lupita agreed to dispatch the duties of a co-chair. A discussion was held regarding the second co-chair position. Magali will be the co-chair for the next month when we will again revisit this issue. Efforts for the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project were not discussed, but as a matter of record this information is included. Attending will be: Yolanda Escamilla, Mike Feinstein, Wally Hoskins, Lupita Jimenez, Karine Megerdoomian, Magali Offerman, Connie Puente, and Donna Warren. Roberto Martinez has been asked to attend at our expense but has not responded as yet. Jodi Beebe has been sponsored by Linda Martin. If Mr. Martinez decides not to attend, we will have one position at our "Silver" table open. Lupita suggests that Connie Garcia be asked to attend. Respectfully submitted, Lupita Jimenez
