Action: Carl will talk with Micki about this. (5a) Campaign endorsements for Bell and Frye. Ted Muga suggested that we present a proposal for the GM that GPSD endorse Jim Bell and Donna Frye. Objections: (a) some council-members (Ric, Bob, Anne, Tammy) argued that GPSD should not endorse non-Greens, on the grounds that (1) our requirements for membership are minimal, and a failure to meet them should make us doubt a candidate's commitment to Green values, and (2) if we endorse non-Greens, we risk becoming an appendage of th e wing of the Democrats. Ric and Tammy also pointed out that it is not GPSD policy to endorse non-Green candidates; (b) there might be other forms of support besides endorsement, which implies a financial contribution; Action: Since this is a significant issue, a discussion will be presented at the Jan. 6 GM meeting as to what our policy currently is and what reasons there are, pro and con, for changing it. (8) Fast Track action The anti-Fast Track coalition is made of Greens and labor reps. They are working on a candidate to run against Susan Davis in 2004; some Greens see this as an opportunity to woo labor away from the Democrats. (8a) discussion of plenary candidates/state delegates. Ric presented a need for SD delegates at the State level and also for state delegates to the national party. Aaron Lipke and Ted Muga expressed interest; Ric also asked us to pass this along to our locals. (8b) Jim Basselon's proposals for GM. Lupita presented some ideas that Jim Basselon wrote up. Some concern on the council that he is unorganized. Action: tell him that some Greens are already working on these issues, suggest that he get involved in the party structure. (8c) Advertising on web site. A local solar energy company proposed to Lupita that they advertise on our web site. Since we have a commitment to not accepting corporate money, we can't do this; however, we can accept donations. (9) Interim officers: Lupe and Bob volunteered to be the interim co-chairs; Carl volunteered to be the interim secretary; Aaron volunteered to be the interim membership coordinator; Micki volunteered in absentia to be the interim treasurer. (5) Camejo Campaign Currently working on a debate between Camejo and Copeland (the libertarian gubernatorial candidate), to be held at USD on Sat., Feb. 2. Democrats and Republicans invited. Money might be needed for renting space if USD can't organize it in time; $300 was approved for this purpose, but a budget for the event is still required. Both parties put up money for the event, but Council gets reimbursed first; remainder gets split 50/50 between the parties. Camejo at Escamilla fundraiser on Feb. 3 GPSD needs to get involved with meetings with labor, city council, so that Camejo can make his 4-point presentation. We can either set up the meetings or follow-up. Bylaw proposals and spring mailer postponed for January 8th meeting.
