MINUTES- GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING AUGUST 25, 2002 CITY HEIGHTS RECREATION CENTER The meeting was convened at 2:20 p.m. Present were: Ted Muga, Lupita Jimenez, Magali Offerman, Ann Menasche, Robyn Ardaz, Lindsay Brean, Wallace Hoskins, Ed Gilmore, Art Daily, Chris Burrell, Rocky Neptune, Bob Nanniinga, and Jim Bazelon. A presidential exploratory survey was discussed by Magali. She asked that we download it from The Green website and submit it to her when completed. Please respond by September 15th. Bob Nanninga spoke on the progress his campaign for Encinitas City Council is making. He reported support from several groups, not just Green people. He is being interviewed by the BIA (Builders' Industrial Assoc.) for a possible endorsement and asked for Green help from members here in the San Diego area. No formal endorsement was given. Participation in his campaign is purely voluntary. Bob is capitalizing on his previous experience running for City Council and has learned some valuable lessons. He has even cut his curly, brown locks! He reported an event scheduled for September 28 in Leucadia called the Sunset Event. His web site is "Nanninga for Encinitas@cox.net". Magali gave a report concerning the statewide campaigns and reported that Peter Camejo will be in San Diego on September 28. Peter is receiving more and more media coverage and campaign donations are coming in. He is rated as being at 5% in the polls. A group is sponsoring a California Clean Campaigns initiative and will be asking for our participation in getting signatures. Max Spenser will be the regional director here. We discussed our upcoming participation in the Adams Street Fair on September 28 and 29. Lupita Jimenez and Nelisse Muga will be coordinating the event on Saturday and then on Sunday. We have been assigned a booth and will need many volunteers to staff it. Karine will make the announcement for volunteers on the website. Micki Adams will help with the scheduling of volunteers. Robyn discussed the strategy proposal that she and Karine have drawn up. She is asking for each Local to meet and decide what will be the detailed action plan for the Local in the preliminary phase and in Year One. The main projects planned will then be presented and incorporated into the general plan for San Diego county. The "summit" meeting for planning for the initiation of the San Diego Free Press newspaper was announced. Those interested are invited to come to the meeting on Friday, Aug. 30, at 7:00 in the Beers Community Room in Hillcrest. A date for the Open House celebration of our Green Party Office was set for September 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at 4406 Park Boulevard, Suite D. All are welcome. The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Lupita Jimenez, Acting Secretary
