4. Brief History of the Green party of San Diego County (GPSD)
Mickey Adams was active when the GPSD first started in 1988. She described things that worked in building the party during the first decade of the party. These included such things as putting advertising in the "Reader" newspaper, meeting in places accessible by mass transit, and holding dances to raise funds and attract young people. She also noted that the GPSD hosted a meeting of the national Green Party meeting in 1989, helped set up local interviews for Ralph Nader during his 1996 presidential campaign, and staged a protest outside the San Diego Convention Center during the Republican National Convention.
5. There will be a Sunflower Appreciation Day event held February 24th in the evening. This event will bring together the founders of the GPSD from years past up with those who are currently involved to share and celebrate the history of GPSD. The event will also honor all volunteers who worked so hard to build the party last year.
6. Guest Speaker, Christian Ramirez, a registered Green Party member and candidate for the San Diego City Council 8th District Seat. He introduced himself to the general membership and briefly described his positions on issues of interest to the group. A question and answer period followed.
The General Membership endorsed this candidate by consensus.
Donations totally $77 were collected.
7. Guest Speaker, Duncan McFettridge of Save Our Forests and Ranchlands spoke about the problem of "sprawl." A question and answer period followed. This organization may be reached through their website. www.sofar.org
8. Election of County Council Members to fill vacancies
Magali Offerman (Y-17) (N-3) (total votes 20) Result-Elected
Nelisse Muga (Y-17) (N-2) (total votes 19) Result - Elected
Third seat remains vacant at this time.
9. Special Events:
Lupita Jimenez reported on the GPSD participation in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in downtown San Diego on January 13, 2001.
Signs made by Ron Fraga were praised by the members.
GPSD plans to participate in the Earth Works event on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22nd. This event is expected to draw over 60,000 people as it is the largest free outdoor event in the nation.
20-30 volunteers are needed to help at the booth that day. Contact Michele Delehanty (619) 420-3142 if you are interested.
10. Donations of $224 were collected when a tin was passed.
11. Announcements from the group included encouragement to get involved by Ron Schnider and Ron Fraga.
12. By consensus the By Laws committee was approved:

13. By consensus the General Membership will meet every other month on the third Sunday in the afternoon.
The County Council will continue to meet monthly on the second Friday in the evening.
All meetings are open and the public is encouraged to attend.
The next General Membership Meeting will be Sunday, March 18,2001
